I want to be able to insert text into a field using a button! I also want this text to be inserted were the cursor is currently blicking. No problem here I know how to do that, but as soon as I place the button in a Portal it only inserts the text at the end of the field, and not were the cursor was before. It is like it leaves the field when you click inside a Portal.

Is there anything simple I missed?

How do I get the inserted text were I want with my button in the Portal? Thanks for your help!!!

FileMaker Included a file called [color:blue] To Do List.fp7, in[color:blue] Templates - Business General take a look at it, and see if this will help?

Lee, thanks for the quick reply! I looked at the file you mentioned but could not find any portals in the Database.

I attached a little Database that illustrates what I am trying to do.

Click somewhere in the large text field and then the button outside the portal and finally the button inside the portal. Do you see what I mean?

I also included my ulgy work around... were you select the text you want to insert before you place the cursor.

I hope someone knows a better methode! Thanks

Hi sebastian,

I don't have time to get into your solution itself, but do this: Add one script-step to the top of your script:

Set Selection [Field you want to insert text into ; 0 ; 0 ]

... meaning put 0 in Start and End positions. This will insert the grabbed text at the beginning. Is this what you want?

Upon re-read, you want to insert at the cursor. Okay, you must find the cursor location ... stand by for answer ... I think ...

Okay, give them shortcut CTRL-1 (or button) to mark their spot. Then run process (see attached). Not elegant, no. But it would make sense to the User.

I can't believe I missed that post of yours, Michael!!! :wink2:

BTW, you could use Find/Replace on the marker as well...
