mvincenti Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 I have to create 7 tables which are extremely similar in regard to the fields within each table. Is there no way to simply "duplicate" a table and then modify the few fields that are different?
Wim Decorte Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Yep, with FileMaker Advanced you can copy and paste tables. But if the 7 tables are very similar, it's time to wonder why they are so similar and the data doesn't belong in 1 table...
mvincenti Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 Hmmm... So I'd need Filemaker 8 Advanced, I guess (or 7 Advanced). The lower version (7 or 8) doesn't have that capability? Oh well. I completely agree with you- I should probably keep all of that in one table. There are many ways to accomplish a task and I've learned that I must try every single possible way before I find the best way. (It'd be nice if I got paid by the hour!) Thanks so much for the speedy response. This forum is an amazing resource!
Lee Smith Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 This is a new feature that was introduced in Advance. BTW, prior to v8, it was called Developer. Lee
comment Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Even without Advanced, you can import a table from the same file into a new table. This will create an almost duplicate table - minus calculation fields.

Importing a table into FileMaker 8 - even standard FileMaker 8 - will in fact create an exact duplicate including all calculation fields.
comment Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 (edited) Hmmm.. I get a red x on calc fields in the import dialog. ---EDIT--- OK, I stand corrected - red x or not, when you do the actual import, the calc fields are duplicated in the new table. Thanks, Bruce. Edited January 25, 2006 by Guest
