Installed Filemaker and my program on a differant computer and it works great. It won't open a second time. I discovered that it's not closing Filemaker on exit. If you use Task Manager to stop process and close Filemaker, it will work again.

Are you using the SMTPit plugin from CNS by chance? If so get the latest version from them. Earlier versions will make FMP behave as you describe.

Another thing I noticed with version 7 is that the Exit Application script step produced that behaviour too. I see you're on v6 so I'm not sure if this applies to your situation.

Are you by chance on a net work?

Is there a closing script for this file?

Personally, I don't like it when a solution closes my Application when I simply just want to close a solution.

can you post the file(s)

On my computer, when I close my program, Filemaker is not open in task manager. Why would it leave it open on my customers computer. The program works fine at my office and at home. It is a very simple program that imports a file and makes a report with no links and it does the same thing with no records, just open and close.

No closing script or network.

Application won't attach. How do you post a file?

From the FAQ in HELP menu

[color:blue]If file attachments are enabled, when making a post you can click the "Manage Files" link. A popup window will open allowing you to browse and select file(s) off your hard drive, then click "Add". When finished click "Finished" and the window will close so you can continue making your post.

your file has to be in one of the formats listed.

Zip the file before attaching it.

The file that I import is changed with a series of scripts. The scripts will not normally be ran again untill after the data is deleted and the next file is imported. However, if you run the reformulate script it will restructure the existing data so the scripts will function.

The code is not complete and not the issue.

If you open and close the program without doing anything, with no data, it won't open again until you manually stop filemaker in Task Manager.

I will try another small FM program tommorrow to see if the problem is computer or program. I will also do some virus testing.

I believe it is the computer or the FM software that I installed.

I did not have this problem. Something else is at play here.

I did notice the messages about sharing in a multiple user environment. do you have this open on more than one machine when this happens?

One copy of FileMaker Pro 6

One program

I will update the status of this after I check the computer for Virus and install another copy of Filemaker.

Thank you for your help

Larry,

I ran the START script on a Windows 2K machine and I had no problem. The problem is not obvious to me so obviously the solution isn't either.

You're not asking but I'll offer up a bit of advice on general scripting method. Take a look at the Set Field script step. It has almost completely replaced the copy / paste method of moving data around. I'm not meaning to be critical I just think you will find it to be a more straight forward and efficient way of programmimg.

A virus huh. I almost suggested that yesterday.

Glad you solved your problem, and I hope the virus is [color:red]not contagious, and you that didn't loose too much data because of it. I also you can nail down how you got it and close the door to it.
