Alisun Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Hello, this will be easy to answer for all the experienced users out there, but for me, I've been struggling! Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a field called "Surgery Time", which is the time it took to perform a surgery. In a separate field, called "Average Time", I want to show the total average time for all the surgeries. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Alisun
scolesm Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Alisun, You should be able to do what you want by defining 'Average Time' as a Summary. Choose an Average type Summary and then make sure it's summarizing 'Surgery Time'. Hope it works! M
Alisun Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 M, Thanks...I tried the Summary that you mentioned, but it would not work, so I gave FileMaker a quick call. As a newbie, I learned that my "Surgery Time" field was Text, and in order to make the average Summary work, the field type must be changed to a NUMBER field. Now the average Summary works perfectly!
