I am trying to establish ODBC connection from my Windos XP machine to FileMaker database on the FileMaker Server 8 Advanced.

I did enabled ODBC shraing on the file, I did check "allow ODBC connections" in Server Admin, I did set the correct Extended privileges, and I did install ODBC driver on my windows machine.

When I try to setup a DNS it gives me an error SequeLink TCP/IP error 2306 (connection refused)

I tried to setup DNS to the same db on my windows machine - worked fine.

I assume there is a problem with the Server. I did put XDBC plugin into Server/Extensions/plugins but I am not sure if it up to date. Where can I get the most recent copy of xDBC plugin for FileMaker Server 8 ADvanced?

I think that might be a problem because when I run netstat -a, SequeLInk port 2399 is not there even though when I do fmsadmin list plugins, xDBC is there.

PLease help!!! ANy ideas are very appreciated!

We just updated from FMS7A to FMS8A and our ODBC link between our FileMaker Server and our UPS Worldship (Windows XP Based) computer broke.

During the upgrade process the FileMaker Server installer gave us an error when we tried to re-install our original server settings from the backup that it made. As a result we had to reconfigure our FileMaker server from scratch.

The UPS computer is telling us that the ODBC driver is being denied access. Any suggestions on how to get them talking to each other again? Our UPS tech just left for vacation for the next 10 days.

What kind of computer is your FMSA8 on? I did upgrade my machine from OS 10.3.9 to tiger and reinstalled FileMaker server. After that it started working. Apparently FMSA8 has issues with 10.3.9 - even when you install the XDBC plugin it does not open the port 2399 which is required by FileMaker ODBC CLient. Now I can connect from Win XP Pro and Win 2000

Ouch... not sure I would want software to automatically open up ports on a firewall when it gets installed though. Sounds like what malware would do.

The FMS documentation explains what ports are in use, it's up to the administrator to open those ports.

Is working for me also now due to the port is blocked previously by firewall.

I was getting the same "connection refused" error.

I had gone through all the steps.

1) Allowed ODBC connections through Server Admin console

2) run netstats -a in cmd (2399 not listed)

3)confirmed the file was not read only

I finally solved the issue by opening up FMP 8.5 rogram on my remote XP machine, opening a remote Database, clicking FILE -DEFINE - Accounts&Privilages, then clicking the extended privilages tab. I edited the line item "Access via ODBC" and checked all the privilege sets. It immediately started broadcasting port 2399 and the connection worked!
