how to display running clock in filemaker

Featured Replies

is there a way to display running clock in a layout from within filemaker. if not pl tell us how to write a java/php/javascript plugin so that we can write a java program and call it from within our filemaker application.

if you upgrade to 8.5 you could do it with the webviewer.

Just create a calculation field:

Get (CurrentTime)

That should do it.

Yes but it wouldn't appear to "run" to the user. It would only update each time the screen was refreshed ..

Yeah, I forgot to mention the refresh function but if they didn't need the seconds to tick off, a 60 second refresh script should suffice and not be too intrusive.

I suppose it would work, but the webviewer is much cleaner and appears "live", easy enough to build a flash doc to do it and have it sync with a web clock before starting or desktop if that's not available. I don't really see the need for a clock at all though... I mean it is on the user's desktop anyway but that's just me.

You're right that there probably isn't a need to be used that much but I could see some times it could come in handy.

Plus I like the simple things you can do with the time function, like this program I built awhile back just for fun (makes a great bedside clock on my laptop).

:badidea: Ups,

doesn't check, sorry

Ino

Nice clock Ino. Thanks for sharing.

No biggie Ino, sometimes I forget to check the poster's version too. I am sure everyone has overlooked it one time or another.

Its a good demo though that may serve someone one day that may search these forums for a clock. So its a good thing.

@ whun450 :) i was looking for a small display of running clock like in windows taskbar. can u tell me how u did that desktop clock so that i could see whether i can use the code to build mine? ALso tell me whether i can implement this in 8.0pro.

ino's "clock" is powered by a JavaScript embedded in an html page. So it must be viewed inside a Web Viewer object; so it requires 8.5. I don't think there is any method to display such a clock in native FileMaker 8.

Rajesh,

sorry for my don’t reply on time, but I’m 100% shore that Fenton is right for using active clock in FileMaker 8.0

If you like to have it (active clock or other active things whether dat or ...) You must upgrade your filemaker pro 8 to 8.5 and then thru html + included JavaScript or thru Flash swf script (file) get active clock or something else.
