xoomaster Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Is there any way to use colored text in a Value list and dropdown menu ?
Lee Smith Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Sure about that? I'm not quite sure I'm following this request, but you can make the data change color by using the Auto Enter Option and hard coding the colors and the responses. I've attached a quick sample of what I mean. ValueListColor.fp7.zip
Genx Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 I took the question to be whether when clicked, and the list drops down, each of the options are a specific text color.
Lee Smith Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 (edited) I know Genx, and that was the way I read it too. However, sense if you squint your eyes, and turn your head sideways, you can almost read it the way I responded. Anyway, I thought I would show them a way that might work for them. Genx Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 LOL! Squint and turn your head sideways eh? I think i'll start doing that just for the comical appearance hehehe.
xoomaster Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 Thank you guys. You are killing me
Twd70 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 hi Lee, helpful tip there, I like it. Is there anyway to change the background color instead of the text using this method? I thought of a way involving container fields behind transparent drop lists. but i think your method would be preferable. many thanks.
Lee Smith Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 To change the background of the field using container fields as you mentiond is the only way it can be done. In fact, until V7 came out, it was the only way we could change the look of a field. If you don't have an example, let me know and I'll point to one. HTH Lee
Newbies Goldstrom Posted February 21, 2007 Newbies Posted February 21, 2007 Could you ppoint me to an example also? We run on fp5 and I would like the "no" answers to look different than the other answers. Thanks
Lee Smith Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 If you do a search for the keywords of +background +color I will return several Thread where this has been discussed. Take a look at the file I posted Link When doing a search, if you use the pluses like I have shown, it will only return threads with those words in it. HTH Lee
Twd70 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 good call Lee, glad i checked your demo, as i was using containers in a seperate table, then using a relational link to trigger the change of color. It works ofc, but if im setting this up for 20 fields i dont fancy 20 relational links. Thanks again Lee.
Lee Smith Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Can you post a small demo of what you want?
Twd70 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 what you posted in your demo works fine for me, except that when i exit and re-enter, the items i copied + pasted into the containers dissapear. any ideas why this might happen?
Inky Phil Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 It sounds as though the containers in question might be set up to be global fields. Phil
Twd70 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 the containers hold the color is a global [4] the fields which calculate which color it should be are calculation fields, and not global. as set out in Lee's demo (after i converted it from fp5 to fp7. is that wrong?
Lee Smith Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I'm not sure what you mean, but the Calculation field needs to be a result of Container Field. If this doesn't fix it for you, post a copy of your file. Lee
Twd70 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 basically, the container fields arent actually storing any data. whenever i close the file the colors/pictures in my container fields disappear! what could cause this?
Twd70 Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 haha, ive got it. sorry about that. the file i was working on is hosted on a server (so it gets backed up daily etc). and when u play with globals remotely it doesnt store, so i moved to the server and did it. all done! Thanks for all the help
Lee Smith Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Danger, Danger... You need to take the files off line when working on them. Otherwise you are exposing them to failure and corruption. Lee
Ender Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 If the network is fast and stable, it's quite safe to edit the schema of hosted files.
