Portal - Viewing Found Set Records on a layout

I am semi-new at FileMaker. I have been charged with taking our customer database electronic and I have been able to model the layout of our paper system.

We deal with prospects and their contacts and leave notes on the cards. I am interested in knowing if I can add a portal or some list to the right side of the card that lists all of the cards that are scheduled for today showing the following fields (Counselor, Prospect Name, Next Contact Date).

The reason I am doing so, is so that I can be working on a card and still see what I have left to do (maybe even navigate to that card by selecting it in the portal).

You will probably be disgusted with my organization of fields, but I am trying my best.

I am open to ANY HELP!

I have included the FileMaker file itself, so anyone can try to see what I am talking about (I can only upload "picture" files so I have changed the name of the file to .jpg whereas it is normally.fp7). Also, I have included an image file of what I am envision.

Before we look at your question we have to discuss your relationship graph. Three of four tables are almost empty and contain only one field. All the data fields are in the first table. This can hardly be correct.

The relationships that don't go anywhere are my attempt at splitting up one large table with all of the current fields. After reading some tutorials I have been experimenting with relationships and trying to figure out they would apply to what I want to do; however, once I began I realized that I didn't know where I am going with the relationships.

This is what I have for each card:

Prospect

Name, address, info, etc....

Contact 1

Name, address, info, etc....

Contact 2

"

Contact 3

"

Notes

Creation info

Modification info

These are all different area of what I want reported for every card. I don't know whether to keep them all in one table (what I have done before), or if there is a way and an advantage to making separate tables for each section of the card.

I know that I need relationships for portals, but I don't know how to have the Portal display a list of the found cards for the day, while I am working on one of the cards.

Please send any correction and help!!

That demo did give me some good ideas. I have been trying to piece it together and recreate it so that I can understand exactly what it is doing, but it has a custom function that is key to the database. I only have FileMaker Pro 8.5, not Advanced. To try to work around that I have tried to take the Demo file and adjust the fields to my names and search needs. This has been somewhat effective, but I am still searching for how to make it work. What I have done is changed the Author and Book Title fields to be calculations that equal Prospect and Next Contact Date. However, I can't search by date part of the time because it is in European date style (and I can't get it to US style) and the rest of the time it doesn't do anything.

Do you have any basic scripts or tutorials that you know of that will help me display a found set in a portal?

I have included the Demo file that I have messed with as an attachment. You just need to change the extension to .fp7 to open it.
