Peter Lange Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Hi, I am a Filemaker novice. I got shoehorned into a job where I need to support this application without ever having used it before. Lucky me. Anyway, there is a person in our office who, when she logs into a FM database, the UI loads but no data is visible. The data is present in the file, and others connecting to the database have no problem whatsoever viewing the data. Just this one individual has ghost data. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
mr_vodka Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 How does she connect to the database? Are you using Citrix? Remote Connection? etc
Peter Lange Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 Its on Filemaker Server 8, and she has a local copy of FileMaker Pro 8.
mr_vodka Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 and she is using 'Open Remote' to connect to the server correct? IOW, she is not using a shortcut or Recent files where she could possibly be trying to hit another copy of the file or shared location. Also double check the permissions for the data file.
Peter Lange Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 She is definitely using Open Remote to open the file. We are unable to check permissions because each month, the editorial team simple makes copy of a pre-existing database to use as a template for their monthly DB needs (yes, it sounds vague and kinda stupid, and I would agree with you for saying so.) When I asked the DB's creator about permissions, his answer was "what are those?" Bottom line is that, because of the copy and paste method, they are never actually setting permissions but just copying permissions from a previous file. But its the same method they have been using for long before I arrived, and the problem is just recent.
AudioFreak Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 When I asked the DB's creator about permissions, his answer was "what are those?" Was going to ask if the file is set up to allow people to view only records they created, but based on the above comment I doubt that's it......lol. Can the user create records? And then view those? Michael
Peter Lange Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 She cant view the record. Because of that I am not 100% sure if she is actually creating the record.
mr_vodka Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 What exactly do you mean by Ghost data? Can you provide a screenshot? Also have you tried reinstalling FM on her Box?
Peter Lange Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 In other words, the data was there, it just cant be seen, hence Ghost Data.
AudioFreak Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 So you can copy the data in a field and paste it into another Application then?
AudioFreak Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 She cant view the record. Because of that I am not 100% sure if she is actually creating the record. Check the number of records. When the user creates a new record does the number of records increase?
