tommypmadison Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Hello, I have a merge field that is left aligned and a merge field that is right aligned, what I would like to do is fill the space between with ......................(note these are separate merge fields). Any suggestions?: Thanks, Tom
AudioFreak Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Just use <>........<> Treat it as one merge field and it should give you what you want. Meaning when in layout mode and you click on it,it's actually 1 merge with 2 fields in it. Michael
comment Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 The question is not quite clear. Did you mean something like this? Merge_Tab.fp7.zip
Stuart Taylor Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Didn't know you could do that. I will find this technique really useful. Thanks for sharing Michael. best Stuart
LaRetta Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 (edited) Maybe it's because it's late and I'm a bit tired but ... I can't figure it out. Can it be explained to me like I was five? And, when opening on Windows, the spacing seems off. Is there a way to make sure this works x-plat? I know that, on windows, Mac users' text fields are too small; maybe this is why? How could it be handled to address this issue - just increase the tab a bit? Edited August 18, 2007 by Guest Added gif
comment Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 (edited) It's done with tabs. To make it even simpler, just type this on the layout: <> space tab space <> Show the text ruler and place a right-aligned (or . aligned) tab on (or near) the right-hand edge of the text object. Define the tab to have a period as the fill character. The demo file has three fields and two tabs, just to show the versatility. EDIT: You need to move the first tab a bit to the right, to allow for more space for the SerialID field. Edited August 18, 2007 by Guest
LaRetta Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 (edited) ...Define the tab to have a period as the fill character. Fill character! Gotcha! Thank you! Very cool indeed! EDIT: Indeed! And I tried as you've suggested - just typing it! This is pretty! ROCKIN'!! Edited August 18, 2007 by Guest
