The fields for replacing are coming from the prior page and those fields have to be on the layout specified in the -lay tag on the prior page or link.

Apparently there is little advantage to using multiple layouts to serve multiple web pages.

I noticed that you are using different databases; 'monitoring_sites.fp5' and 'db.fp5' or is this just a typo?

Using -edit and returning a different format page referring to the same record works for me. Maybe something else is wrong; the layout for the next page may not contain the fields for which you are trying to display with tags.

All the best.

RE: Apparently there is little advantage to using multiple layouts to serve multiple web pages.

This is true but it will speed up your application if you use layouts that only contain fields that are needed on the current format file and to make the fields for the next format file available when the current format file is submitted (and the other way if you incorporate the ability to go backwards).

This becomes more important if the fields contain large amounts of data ........ a CV / Resume for instance and another layout may contain indepth competancy questions 400+ words ( you can probably guess what sort of web applications I develop). This is compounded when the database receives many hits over very short periods of time.

Both ways will work it's just a matter of personal preference - I use multiple layouts for my multiple page web applications as I consider this the "proper" way to do it for my particular uses however notable others would consider this a waste of time ...... as the developer it's up to you to decide on your own style and best practices.

scratchmalogicalwax -- read that above link and you will smile smile.gif

I thought I mentioned about not having the fields on the layout you were trying to access. Maybe I wrote too many words. wink.gif

All the best.

Gosh Garry, even though I don't always agree with you, you USUALLY give good advice. Thanks. ;-)
