Joel Saltzman Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I dont remember how I fixed this before. I have a list of products. I pick each color type for the products. SO, 1 shirt might only have 2 colors available. When entering a sales order I want to type in the product id and in the next field show a list of only the AVAILBLE colors. It seems like it would be simple but I cant seem to figure it out today...
Joel Saltzman Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 I needed 2nd references all the way through to the color table and only show the records from the products 2 table. I attached the completed file for anyones future refernce. valuelist.zip
comment Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Off topic - but you should not have auto-entered serials on foreign keys.

blissland Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Maybe I didn't understand the post, but I had the impression that the valuelist file was a SOLUTION to the problem. but its really just a mess...worked a little, then not at all, then a tiny bit, then not at all...i've tried everything i could to make it work and its no use. i would not recommend this as a solution.
blissland Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 This solution works well IF the relationships between the fields do not change (A BMW is always a car), but its not a solution if one needs a more dynamic solution (Project A needs topsoil, Project B needs Mulch). If anyone has a solution to something more dynamic, i'd love to see it.

Please make sure you understand a suggestion before criticizing it. Then, if you have some specific points to make - make them. These vague remarks are not helping anybody. This is a professional forum, not a popularity poll. I wouldn't recommend this solution to everybody either. Obviously, your needs are different from those of the original poster (though I am not quite sure what they are from your description). So either look for a more suitable solution, or explain your problem in detail - preferably in a new thread.
Joel Saltzman Posted January 26, 2008 Author Posted January 26, 2008 What exactly are you looking for with your conditional value list?
blissland Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Hi, yes, I started to explain my needs in that reply, but then realized that it was more appropriate to do it in a new thread, so that's why you don't see it here, but you do in a more recent thread.
