February 13, 200817 yr Hi all... maybe you can help me with this: Is there any way to sort records by their modification date? I mean, I'd like to know which records were modified lately, and sort them by modification date (not creation date), but without a "modification date" field. FM "takes note" of modification date (I mean, in hours, minutes and seconds) when a field is changed? Because I want to create a button to show users which records have they recently modified, in order to correct wrong modifications made (comparing with a back-up database). I don't know if I am clear... if not, please let me know. Thanks for helping or just reading it. Greetings from Argentina. Jorge
February 13, 200817 yr Hi Jorge, Well, the easiest way is making a field that hold the value of "modification date". You can set up a field by selecting "Modification [Timestampt (Date and Time)]" in "Automatically enter the following data into this field" section. This would be good since you want to have records of modifications for every records, right? After that, you can perform sorts by this field. Again, by reading your comment above, I thought you would not prefer this way...
February 14, 200817 yr Author Hi my friend!!! It's great, exactly what I was looking for... because I create the "modification date" field and I just don't show it... so it don't bother me : But I have a little problem... I have a relationship between 2 tables. Into one of them, I have a portal which shows the orders of the costumer... What can I do to sort the records in the table with the portal, by "modification date" of the portal rows? I mean, for example: John Johnson: -10/2/8 A hamburguer -11/2/8 A Pizza ([color:red]modificated for example at 11 am) Michael Stewart: -8/2/8 A Pizza -11/2/8 A Pizza [color:red](modificated for example at 12 am) I'd need to sort the records (John Johnson and Michael Stewart) to know which was modificated at last. Thanks for the help. Jorge
February 14, 200817 yr Author Hi my friend... I don't realize how to do what you told me to... Here I attached my base, so you can see it... The problem is that when I modify a record from the portal, the "modification date" field only change when I modify the first row of the portal, but doesn't change when I modify another row... So I don't know... I'd need that the last row modified "push" the costumer into the first place... do you understand? Thanks for all fellow. Lucas cct_BIEN3_Unificaci__n_Copy_INGL__S.zip
February 14, 200817 yr Hi Jorge/Lucas, The problem is that when I modify a record from the portal, the "modification date" field only change when I modify the first row of the portal, but doesn't change when I modify another row... Could you give more information with an example what you want to do?
February 14, 200817 yr Author Sure... I'm sorry but my english isn't good enough, but let me try to explain: For example: González Peter... he has 3 orders... 1) 15/12/2007 Cheese Pizza 2) 20/12/2007 Cheese Pizza 3) 25/12/2007 2 Sandwiches Martinez María has 3 orders too... 1) 11/8/07 Ham pizza 2) 20/12/7 Tomatoe Pizza 3) 25/12/07 Hamburguer The thing is: I modify, for example, María's order 2 (for example, instead 'Tomatoe Pizza', I write just 'Pizza')... So, when I push "Sort" button, I want that María record appears first... Do you understand? Other example: Then, I modify one of the Gonzalez's order... instead of '2 sandwiches', I write '1 sandwich'.... In this case, when I push sort button, González should appear first, because I modified one of his orders after I have modified María's order... I mean, I don't want to sort the orders into one customer... I want to sort the costumers by the time their orders have been modified. Please tell me if you still can't undestand me... Thanx a lot!!!!!!
February 14, 200817 yr In the Customers table, define a calculation field = Max ( Orders::ModificationDate ) Then sort the customers by this field.
February 15, 200817 yr Author Thanks Comment, it works great... I have only one more question: In the same layout in which I have the portal, I have a field that can be modified to... What can I do to include that variable in the "sorting calculation"? I mean, I'd need that a change in that field (that is not inside the portal, but in the table which has the portal) be taken like a modification, and calculated in the sort... Thanks for everything... I'm learning a lot thanks to you people! :
February 15, 200817 yr Simply change the calculation to: Max ( ModificationDate ; Max ( Orders::ModificationDate ) )
