argnom Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 (edited) Hello, This is probably a really simple one, but since I just started using this FMP a couple of days ago it's causing me a bit of a problem when I try to send personalized group emails. Here's what I did. - Setup a new database with customary info such as last name, first name, email, www site, member of mailing list(drop down menu, yes, no) etc... - Started a script with the SriptMaker that looks like this: Step 1. Find Records test::MailingMember:[=yes] Step 2. Send Mail [no dialog; To: test::email; Subject:"email test"; Message:test::name] This works well. I get the email and my name is in the body of the message. Now the problem part. The syntax will be wrong but here's what I would like it to print in the body of the message: Hello test::salutation test::FirstName test::LastName, All I would like to know is how to seperate text from field values. Many thanks! Edited February 25, 2008 by Guest
argnom Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 Wow! Thanks for the quick replys mr_vodka. I'll try it and give you some news.
argnom Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 Well, your syntax explains a lot mr_vodka, but unfortunately, I'm still having a bit of a problem. For some reason, in ScriptMaker, when I get to the SendMail options, in the body of the message, after typing the code eyou gave me it adds a " at the beginning and at the end of the line. In return, it prints "as if it were text" in the email. I presume that the " is a tag for "this is text, print it" or am I worng? I tried to remove them, but FMP seems to like them quite a bit since it keeps on adding them. Thank you for the help.
mr_vodka Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Sorry I misread what you were trying to do in your orig post. Try specifying a calc. "Hello " & test::salutation & " " & test::FirstName & " " & test::LastName & ","
argnom Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 Hurray! Thanks mr_vodka. It works perfectly. I'll be able to use this example for many other things I want this database to do. For the rest, I'll just have to purchase a book. One can do quite a bit with FMP by just fiddling around with it, but as far as scripts go, it's another story. Thanks again!
