john9210 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 FM 8.5. Is there a way to detect if the layout is in portrait or landscape mode. If so, I would like to use it in a script step for printing.
IdealData Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Use the Print Setup step. You can configure each Print Setup step with page its own orientation. So rather than test the current setup, just set the setup to the desired orientation.
john9210 Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 Sure, that's an obvious solution. However, you would have to include a Print Setup step with each script that prints and for each layout that a script visits. I would rather have the script detect the orientation automatically.

What orientation would that be? How could FileMaker know whether its a page that is portrait or landscape? It doesnt store page settings for each layout. It only stores what the last Print setup options were. I dont see it being that big of a deal putting in a print setup script step for all of my different print layouts. Personally, I would rather control what type of orientation that I want my reports to print as. What if the information was small enough to print as portrait but I wanted it to print on landscape? I dont think I would want FileMaker to assume what kind of paper I wanted to print on. Edited March 4, 2008 by Guest
David Jondreau Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 A layout doesn't have an inherent orientation. You've just added layout objects that fit into the bounds of a certain paper size and orientation.
