The Big Bear Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 My company just brought a 10 seat licensed for Filemaker Pro 9 and one licensed for Filemaker Server from FM. I have been reading that it would be best to have a dedicated server for FM. If we do not install FM server on a decicated server, what kind of problems would we have. Would it work or would it crash would we lose data We will be scanning inventory into FM. Thanks for the information Lionel
mr_vodka Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I would definately go with a dedicated server. Dont go cheap on the server... FM uses the HD intensively. Get a RAID 5 or 10 setup with fast drives such as SCSI or SAS. How much is your data worth? I mean you could go cheap on the server but then how much will it effect your business if the HD crashes and you lose all your data? You want to minimize your chances of corruption and data crashing.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Excellent advice. I would just note that RAID is not a requirement; however you certainly can use it. You could also use a 3 drive array of SCSI or SAS drives. OS and FMS on one; databases on two; and, local backups and logs on three. See the Server Tech Brief from the FMI web site. Steven
