nopposan Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) Hi, all. I'm trying to draw a graphical grid over a portal. For some reason, when I do this some of my vertical grid lines disappear when I switch to browse mode. 'Very annoying. Please give me some helpful advice if you can. Thank you. Lee Smith Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) What is the point of the Grid? If this is for printing, you should make your report in the TO that has the original data, instead of using Portal. HTH Lee p.s. If you are putting lines between the fields, you need to zoom in close and be sure that they do go outside the portal boarders. Edited May 8, 2008 by Guest
nopposan Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 If you are putting lines between the fields, you need to zoom in close and be sure that they do go outside the portal boarders. Did you mean to say, "do not go outside the portal borders"? Also, I'm not sure what TO is. 'Sorry. Table object? However, this layout is supposed to be both for printing and for data entry. Thanks.
Lee Smith Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) TO = Table Occurrence "do not go outside the portal borders" Correct. If you zoom in on the portal, you will see that there is a board where the Fields go close to, but not touch . If they do, you will get weird results, like you described. Printing portals are problematic. They are hard to format, as you have seen. They are not flexible, which you will discover if you try do print anything beyond what you see on screen. It is recommend that you create your reports, in the file where the original data resides, not using a portal. HTH Lee Edited May 8, 2008 by Guest
nopposan Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 (edited) Thanks for your help. I just made the portal bigger to cover the whole grid and that fixed the problem. I'm using portals so that I can accomplish output that looks like what my project managers want; there are many fields of indirectly related data that they want all on letter-sized forms that can be printed out. So, I think I'm stuck with using portals. However, you said . . . They are not flexible, which you will discover if you try do print anything beyond what you see on screen. Do you mean that when I print the form with the portals I'll only be able to print the portals that are in view on my screen? That doesn't seem to be the case so far; I've tested printing my form and it seems to work fine. Edited May 12, 2008 by Guest
Lee Smith Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 What you see is what you get. You should look creating a "List View", or a Report for printing this data. Lee
