Any news on what the next big thing might be in FMP ?

Are we going to have a 9.5 or jump to 10 ?

I know it is suppose to be a top secret but any news out there ?

Any news on timing of any upgrade releases?

Well FM seems to do 1.5 year releases on average, so there will probably be news near the end of the year. Who knows, maybe they'll release something that runs stably on the new gen platforms.

Frankly though, I've come to not expect much - new FM versions are like patch's with other systems... except they're more rare, forced (more often than not while still unstable) and cost half the price of the software to upgrade.

Well they have been pretty good at releasing it around DevCon for the past few versions but this year obviously not.

I would think that they would add more ESS compatibility as well as perhaps optimizing it. Also maybe they will add the ability to index some of it as well for value lists.

The big question for me will be whether the file format changes. I would understand if it changed, because it's starting to get complicated supporting workgroups that could have 4-5 different versions in use. But all-or-nothing transitions always take more time.

To me, there are lots of things that could be changed/improved without changing the file format, such as, one can only hope, a complete rewrite of layout mode.

Filemaker has an upgrade promotion running on Filemaker 9 that expires on 9/26/08. The next upgrade will probably come after that date, perhaps soon after.

I can already tell you that the next version number will be greater than 9.0, and that it will be released in the future.
