May 22, 200817 yr Hello I am running fm server 7 advanced and can not open my file for sharing...i right click and hit open and i see it change the status to opened and it goes right back to closed....i have had this problem before but cant remember how to fix it...i think i renamed the file or something to that nature. Any ideas? I am desperate!!!
May 22, 200817 yr Open it in a Client application (Pro or Developer) and try saving a copy as compacted. I hope that you have a backup copy somewhere prior to this happening. If so, then after opening the file successfully, it would be safest to import your current data into the backup copy and use that.
May 22, 200817 yr Author I do have a backup copy that i am trying to open...that is why i am having this problem...i had to restore from a backup and i cant get the backup status to normal...just stays on closed..The file opens fine on pro 7.
May 22, 200817 yr Woah... Deja Vu. Has it been over a year already?? Geez. Could have been your file has been damaged for quite a while. Try downloading the trial version of FM9 and letting it open up on there. Then save as compact with that version. FM9 has much improved scanning ability.
May 22, 200817 yr Author I found a backup from 3 months ago that worked...i will try using fm 9 to see if that can fix my problem so i wont have to use such an old backup. Any idea why these files go bad? Thanks for your help. Rick
May 22, 200817 yr Improper shut downs usually... Sometimes bad architecture. Many times the file get corrupted very early on, and most people think that it is okay since its working with a recover or compact file, but most times this will bit them later on with much more data in it. My general rule is that if at all the file seems suspect of corruption, go to a backup.
May 22, 200817 yr Author OK, using fm 9 recover worked. I am able to open the file for sharing but when i try to modify a record, it says the file is not modifiable...any ideas on how to fix this issue? Attributes on the file are set to read / write.
