Field Names Don't Display in Layout Mode

Featured Replies

I have recently downloaded some sample files from this forum and have noticed that the field names do not display in the Layout Mode. It appears that when in Layout Mode the data from the active field is being displayed.

In order to see the field name I must double-click on the field to display the Field/Control Setup window.

Any clue what is going on here? Is this possibly due to the original file being an earlier version of Filemaker. I am using Filemaker Pro 9. Can this be changed?

Thanks for your input

Lol. Most likely they are Michael's (comment) files. He likes to have sample data shown.

To turn it off, in layout mode go to View menu --> Show --> Sample Data.

That solved my problem. Thank you very much John. This is not a feature that I have ever used.

I didn't realize I was somehow unique in this. After all, the fields do have labels to identify them - and I like the instant "preview" when formatting a field.

The Shadow also uses Preview; or at least did few years back. I recall the first time I saw it; I thought he had somehow inserted the FileMaker blue folder into a field and I was intrigued how it was done. Ha ha! I had never seen layouts set that way before then. :wink2:

No but considering that you are the MFP, your preference is to have the sample data showing, and since Richard said it was from a file that he downloaded from these forum...

The probability that it was one of your files is pretty steep. :

Yeah... Where the heck is JT?
