(No, This is not a Viagra ad...)

Hi,

running FM server 9 on a dedicated database server with Win 2003 Server.

It's a Dell PE 1600 SC.

1 Gb RAM. Processor à 2.79 GHz.

4 Disks @ 37 Gb in RAID 5.

We are disappointed with response times.

When I go into Task manager, Perf Mon, I can see 4 windows monitoring the processor.

First three windows :P practically no activity.

Fourth window : pretty frantic. Zigzagging between 60% and 80%.

Is this Good? Bad? Normal? Unfortunate?

If it's bad, or unfortunate, is there anything I can do in FMS or in Windows to get it better ?

Where's a good place to go to get performance related advice for FMS?

TIA

Bobbby

Are you a member of technet? If not its worth it just for the additional tech briefs and webinars that are only accessible if you are a member. $99 bux.

Anyway, FMI recently did 3 webinars on how to optimize and monitor server.

BTW what kind of bus connection are you using? SCSI, SAS, SATA, IDE?

Oh also I would definately upgrade the RAM to 4 GB and again make sure that you are using a hard drive with a fast BUS such as SAS. FMS is very intense on the hard drive.

You are way out of spec on this machine.

You need 4 GB RAM.

If you're going to run RAID--and you do not need to do so for effective FIleMaker Server deployment--use RAID 10,and be sure to use a hardware RAID controller.

What OS are you using? Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition 32 bit version is the certified Windows Sever OS.

Type of drives?? UW-SCSI or SAS, not SATA or IDE.

I have no experience with the Perfmon.

I don't really understand understand what I'm looking at never mind analysing it.

(But I'm a good learner.)

I have a screencopy of the Perfmon and I would like to post it here but is that possible ?

Or do you guys have a preferred place for posting images ?

Here's the MSINFO.

Yes, it's in French, but that's probably not causing the performance problems ! :P
