November 1, 200817 yr What's the best tool for analysis of an FMP7 and above solution? The DDR is clearly limited, and Documentor, because it depends on the DDR, shares those limitations. Back in the days of FMP6 and before MetaDataMagic was an excellent tool, but after all these years New Millennium hasn't moved that product forward. Here are some of the problems I'd like to analyse. 1. Which scripts and calculations are using a particular Custom Function? 2. Likewise with Layout Named Objects, Value Lists, Layouts, Scripts, TOs and much else. 3. Are there any calculations and scripts with unknown tables and fields, and if so where? 4. What tables and/or TOs aren't being used anywhere? And so forth. What's the best currently available tool for the above?
November 1, 200817 yr I like Inspector by FMNexus, but I don't think even it does everything you want.
November 1, 200817 yr I am most impressed with Base Elements out of all of them. It will do all that you ask. It also provides all the data in list view so you can export, manipulate and use in other ways. And you can add your own notes right in it. Edited November 1, 200817 yr by Guest
November 1, 200817 yr Author I am most impressed with Base Elements out of all of them. It will do all that you ask. It also provides all the data in list view so you can export, manipulate and use in other ways. And you can add your own notes right in it. I'm impressed with what's posted on their website. Sounds very promising. Are others using this as well, or are there yet other options?
November 1, 200817 yr The DDR is clearly limited, and Documentor, because it depends on the DDR, shares those limitations. All of these tools base their reports on a DDRs. Any perceived limitations are really what the developer has chosen to provide for the price of the tool. Documentor costs $200 Inspector is $400 BaseElements is $500 The bottom line is, you need to judge for yourself what reports, interface, etc. comes the closes to meeting your needs, and falls into your price range.
