Scroll bars

Featured Replies

I have several layouts in which data is entered. I then have a layout with tabs that summarizes all the data. Is there a way to not allow entry into the field (on this data summary screen) but still have the scroll bars in an individual field? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but wanted to double check with the experts. Thanks.

If I'm understanding you correctly,

Make a new Calculation Field, and have the calculation it equal the Field you want to have show, but not enterable, it will do what you describe.

As always, thanks guys.

Michael, I'm unsure how the link you referenced would help here. It will stop entry into a field but, if scroll bar exists, it can't be scrolled with 'Allow Entry in Browse' unchecked. From my understanding, a calc (as Lee mentioned) is still the only way to address this particular issue. Am I missing something here?

LaRetta,

You are right. Lee's way was the one that worked. I think the link was just addressing not allowing data entry into the field. The scroll bars were still not visible.

The scroll bars were still not visible.

Whether the scroll bars are visible or not depends upon whether you have Field Borders checked on the right side, whether the line is transparent or not, whether 'allow scroll' is checked, and what is the color of the line (it won't show if it is same color as background). Scroll bar will still display even if it won't work.

Hi LaRetta,

If you missed it, so did I.

This is one of those annoying behavior things that should be corrected. IMO, there should be another option available to allow View entire Field, if the Do Not Allow Entry in Browse, is checked.

Oh well, wishful thinking I guess.

Lee

No, you're right - I'm afraid I goofed up on that one. I'm not sure about calc being the ONLY way, though: it could be handled through privileges (admittedly, in a somewhat awkward manner), or you could use a web viewer to display the data (if you don't mind showing another style of scroll bars).
