David Jondreau Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 But I'm writing a script and for the first time, I notice the dialog box for the script step "Omit Multiple Records..." This applies in 9 and 10, haven't checked earlier versions. The dialog box says, "Number of entries to be omitted______". That's weird enough to make me pause. What's an "entry"? I'm omitting "records." If a mistake like that came up while I was demo'ing to a client, I'd be a little embarrassed. Am I being too nit-picky? Granted, I've probably added that script step a hundred times in scripts and never noticed the dialog, so what does that say about me?
Lee Smith Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) I can remember using this step in a lot of the different older version. However, the earliest I recall for sure was in v4 In order to use it you need the starting and ending records. I usually go to he last record to be deleted, and type in the number. LaRetta Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 It's the little things, DJ, I agree ... and the little things can sometimes bite us big time! It goes back through vs. 7. In vs. 6, it says same as if you manually omit multiple, ie, 'Starting from current record, omit ____ records.' Of course this means that in vs. 6, we couldn't specify a calculation when omitting multiple (yuk). At least (as the window title says when creating it), it says 'Omit multiple records options' but I agree ... it should say 'number of RECORDS to be omitted.' I shall report this as a bug; we all should. If little things aren't reported, they will stay this way forever. Not that they'll always fix things but, if we don't report them, we can be guaranteed that they'll never be fixed. LaRetta
bcooney Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I'll add to it the fact that throughout the interface, manual and help files, FMI casually interchanges the term table and table occurrence. No wonder we receive so many questions that point to context issues.
