hartmut Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Hi I am wondering if it might be possible to script the creation of a graphical button. I would like the user to be able to have a field filled with their topic and using another button they would be able to create a button in a specific layout in a specific location ( so they would never overlap) and be assigned a script that would be preplanned. Thanks
mr_vodka Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 No. Designing layouts should be for the developer, not the end user. What is the exact purpose here? There is probably a better answer to solve your issue rather than creating buttons on the fly. Keep in mind that there are existing techniques that hide objects.
hartmut Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 I think you are right. HOW do you hide a button? My reason for saying what I did is for the user to be able to add a similiar button to ones that exist to use with a script that is similiar . The only difference would be the information in a field and the title of the button.
mr_vodka Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 You are still not stating what the purpose is here... Forget allowing the user to create a button for now. What is even the purpose of why you would want a user to do that? You can hide items by using the Visibility Trick
hartmut Posted April 9, 2009 Author Posted April 9, 2009 so they could add similiar functionality of their own to an existing database. It can griw as they grow.
mr_vodka Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Then just give them layout access so they can modify their own layouts. You still have not said what the overall purpose to these buttons are. What kind of functionality are you trying to provide? If you want the users to create their own buttons, scripts, etc then give them layout edit access as I said earlier. I had asked you to forget the creation of a button for now but rather state the functionality that you are trying to achieve. Do you expect never to enhance the system once completed? I just don't get it. Perhaps there is a better way. You can use one button with a drop down functionality for example. But again without knowing the purpose ( besides just allowing any user to add buttons for no reason for the sake of scalability) then I have no idea how to advise you.
