genious Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 It is some time since I last used Filemaker in anger. I know that I can do this but I can not remember how. I have 2 tables customers and Conversations. In the conversation (child) table I have a next chase date which I want to copy the last one into the customer table. I have completely forgotten how to create this calculation. Help as always is very appreciated.
Søren Dyhr Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Make an extra TO of the Conversations Table, and relate t with the same key fields, but this time with the reverse sort order on the record ID ... and it's getting "Matthew" - but if there should be an apparent reason for involvement of a calc field should be unsaid ... bringing in the new relations record on a layout is sufficient in many cases. --sd
comment Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Why not sort the existing relationship, instead of creating a new one - or, even simpler, place a one-row portal on the customer layout, and set it (the portal) to sort by date, descending.
genious Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 I need the calculation in order to make things easier for reporting purposes. Please forgive me what do you mean TO and who is matthew?
IdealData Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 A TO is a Table Occurrence. This is another table on the relationship graph, based on the same relationship as you described using the same keys, but set to sort in reverse order.

True! ... but since it's going to be used in a report, wouldn't it reveal a shortcoming right away? --sd
Søren Dyhr Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 and who is matthew? ...and who is Pasolini? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gospel_According_to_St._Matthew_(film) The last will be first and the first last (20:16) --sd
genious Posted August 13, 2009 Author Posted August 13, 2009 It is a long time since I used FM I certainly feel very rusty. I now see why I was having trouble I was sorting on the wrong date field. Many thanks to all, I would not havve fixed it without you.
