Copying layouts from one database to another

I know that I can copy tables from one database and paste them into another.

Is there a way to copy the associated layouts from one table and use them in the second database?

Is this option available natively in filemaker or is there any kind of 2nd party software that can accomplish this?

You can copy and paste them one by one.

You might find Clip Manager 3 helpful, it will allow you to copy a layout, and keep it in Clicp Manager so that it is availabe for other Layouts.

Thanks Lee.

I did what you said and, for the most part, everything survived the migration.

So far I have only discovered one anomaly.

My original database is set up to pull some values from a table I call "Parameters". These are the constants I use in my cabinetshop for various calculations. For example, we use something called a "spaceball" to facilitate expansion & contraction in raised panel doors.

The dimension of this item is called out on the parameters page and referenced when calculating panel sizes.

In the original database this value is a calculated number field with the value: [color:blue]Parameters::Space Ball Size

When this table copied over it was appended to read: [color:red]/*[color:blue]Parameters::Space Ball Size[color:red]*/

When I remove the forward slash & asterisk everything works as it should.

Would be handy to not have to go in an manually fix all of these constraints.

Maybe the FM Butler you mention might do this for me?

Pasting layout objects from one layout to another, will not effect the fields like that. Copying a Tables in one File to another File will. Clip Manager would give you the same result.

You need to read about migrating your files, there are a slew of Threads about migration in the Upgrade and Migration Topic Link.
