Hi

I am not sure where to post my request. So it may appear in two places.

I am new to File Maker Pro 8.5 (never used File Maker before).

I am trying to write a script to do the following. If anyone can tell me what to do and how to do it, I would really appreciate it.

I have set up a contact database. One layout is a form to enable data entry. Another layout which I have set up is in 'Preview' which is in three columns showing company name, address, phone, fax, etc. I have set it up using the sliding method so that if there are blank fields, no blank lines appear. As the company name and address is self expanatory, no field heading is necessary, eg company name, address line 1/2/3, postcode, etc.

However for Tel/Fax a heading is necessary. Also I would like to have a field heading for Contact, Email and Web. However, sometimes no information is available for that field ie no web address.

When this is the case, I don't want the field heading word Tel/Fax/Email/Web/Contact to appear. However if there is data in the field, then I want it to be preceded by what ever the data is, eg Tel: 0208 123 4567 or Fax: 0208 123 4567.

Is there a script I can use for the field so that if data appears it is preceded by its name, eg Tel: before the number? but nothing to appear if there is no number?

Looking forward to hearing from anyone.

Kind regards

Suzy

Hi Suzy,

Take a look at the example files you will find Here. My search for [color:blue] visibility just now return 7 files with that as a Keyword. The files at databasepros.com are free for the taking. They are open so that you can tear them apart to see how the tick.

Hi

I have a field called 'Company Telephone Number'. Within the 'Preview' report which I have created, I have inserted the field heading 'Company Telephone Number' and next to it is the actual field which when looked at in 'Preview' shows all the company telephone numbers (if they have one).

I have most of the telephone numbers for the companies, but when there is no telephone number I don't want the the field heading 'Company Telephone Number to appear as there is no actual telephone number.

Are you suggesting that I make another column (eg Telephone heading) and in every cell for each company I type the word 'Company Telephone Number' within the 'Telephone heading' field?

Would I then enter a script in the 'Telephone heading' field? If so please will you tell me what I should write for the script? By what you've typed is it ...

If(IsEmpty(Company Telephone Number);"";"Telephone heading")

I'm not too bad at simple Excel formula but this is a bit more than I'm used to. I really want it to work but I'm just not sure. Please will you spell it out for me?

Thank you very much

Suzy
