Hi everyone! how do you do?

I have this little issue:

I use my solution to write letters (of different lenght) to my customers. I'd need to insert my signature (an jpeg image)at the end of the letter, but I don't know exactly how to do to make that the sign appears exactly at the end of the text, no matter the lenght of the letter.

I look foward your help!!!

THANKS A REALLY REALLY LOT PEOPLE!!!!

Hi

Align Top Left the jpeg image into the container field and apply to both the objects ( container and text fields ) the sliding up.

Hi Daniele!

Thanks a lot for your quick answer... but I don't really realize what you are telling me to do... It seems that my English isn't good enough.

I attach here a sample solution, and maybe you can show me what you wrote.

Thanks a lot.

Mmm I can't understand... I'd need to insert the signature after the "thanks a lot!!!"... not in the middle of the letter... could you do that with this solution you attach? please explain it to me.

Many many many thanks!!!

Now am I to not understand !

The field containing your sign must be positioned ( while in Layout Mode ) at the bottom of the text field, as it is in the example that I modified for you.

The sliding effect will be seen ONLY in Preview Mode or in printed documents.

Yes, thanks a really lot!!!! I was not opening your file, but mine.... one last thing: the signature appears splitted between the pages... is there any way to set it, to avoid splitting?

Thanks for all your help, always. thanks a lot

Hi Dan, I tried what you said about the Trailing Grand Summary, and it does have avoided the splitting, but there is a little problem: when the letter reaches the end of the page, the signature appears alone in the 2nd page...

Do you have any idea how to avoid this? How to make the signature appears in the 1st page, on a side?

"Grazie tante!"

PS: I attach your file with the Trailing Grand Summary thing.

Hi,

I don't believe there is any way to avoid pushing the trailing grand summary and thus the signature onto it's own page if there is not enough room on the page above it.

I would make separate layouts: One layout for 1-page letters, one layout for 2-page letters, and so on.

You can get fancy with the scripting so that you have the user enter the data into the text box and then your script can determine how many pages it will end up being, including the signature, and then the scrip take the user to the layout with the applicable number of pages and offer to print.

Let me know if you'd like more info on how to set up the scripting.

All best,

Christian

It sounds great Chris!!!

But yes, I'd need a bit of help with the scripting: how can I get the number of lines written by the user (to calculate the number of pages)? Is there any 'Get' function?

Or do you have another idea to determine how many pages the text+signature will be?

Thanks a really lot for the help! (and sorry for my English). Greetings from Argentina!!

Hi,

You can do the scripting a number of ways. Unfortunately, the only function that comes close to helping is the Length(text) function, however relying upon a certain number result here will not give you an exact measurement of the length of the text entered. But you can try this method if it suits you:

1. Set up a button for the user to push when entering data for a letter

2. Open a new window and navigate to a nicely formatted custom dialog box layout that allows them to specify how many pages they think their letter will end up being in a global field (they can change the number of pages later).

3. When the user hits continue, close the dialog window and take them to the corresponding letter layout, let's say they specified 1 page, where they can data enter or copy their text.

4. On this layout, place a button at the top that will allow them to increase or decrease the number of pages they want their letter to be. The button will be attached to a script that takes them back to the custom dialog where they can specify the number of pages for their letter. (You will have to build in validation that prohibits them from proceeding if they enter a number that is greater than the letter layout that you have created with the most number of pages.) Again, when they hit continue it will take them to the appropriate layout.

5. Make sure to set the button so that it does not print

I'm unsure why Daniele's first example didn't work for you except that he was using form view and I feel it should be list layout but open the attached example and go to preview mode. Then jump through the example records. :smile2:

Hi La Retta! Thanks for your interest.

The thing with Danielle's way, is that if the text of the letter reaches the end of the page, the signature appears alone in a 2nd page... and if the text is close to the end of the page, the signature splits between 2 pages (I mean: at the end of the 1st page appears one part of the signature, and in the 2nd page, the other part).

What I'm trying to do, is to avoid splitting, and avoid the 'lonelyness' of the signature in the 2nd page... can you figurate out how?

Now I working on a variant of the Christian Mark's way: I'll put the signature into a Trailing Grand Summary (to avoid the splitting)... When the user tries to print, I'll carry the user to the preview mode, and to the last page, and I'll ask him if he sees the signature alone. If he says 'yes', I'll carry him to another layout with the signature placed in the footer part... I don't really want that the sign appears in each page, but the last one; but if I don't have any option, I'll do it that way...

Do you have in mind another solution you could tell me please?

THANKS A REALLY LOT FOR ALL THE HELP!!

Chris, thanks a lot for your suggestion. It's great.

I'm working on it, but in a different way (I explained it to LaRetta in my previous post). As soon as I finished it, I'll tell you the results! However, if you figure out other way, it will be trully welcomed!!

Thanks!!!! :waytogo:

Glad to hear you have found something that will work for you.

I was thinking a little more about the idea I proposed, and instead of having a pop-up box you could just have a field at the top of the page where the user can data enter the number of pages, then attach a script trigger to that field so that when the user exits it takes them to the appropriate layout...
