Layout Folder Limit

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there's a layout folder limit with FM 11?

I seem to have run into one ...

And in your experience the limit is ... how many?

I maxed out at 50 (including subfolders)

Is that for one TO, or totally for the file?

50 folders total per file. I'd really like to know if anyone's gotten above that.

I was easily able to make 100; but only 50 are selectable in the popup after you go back to browse mode.

Oops, sorry, should've mentioned then ... I can make them all day long, but yeah, the drop down menu on the Status bar doesn't work.

Is this 50-folder limits on Mac or Windows (or both)?

It definitely is capped in Windows but I would suspect both.

I seem to have also! Admittedly, this file I'm working on has a HUGH number of layouts! I've got 7 top level folders, a total of 54 second level folders nested in these, another 6 folders nested in the second level, and another 10 top level folders with misc layouts. I created "top level" folders for each of the tabs in a tabbed Main Menu, then "second level folders" for each menu item on each tab. The second level folders hold all the layouts for that menu choice. All display correctly in the Manage Layouts dialog. When viewed form the drop-down layout listing (layout mode, not showing ANY layouts to the user), I see the first 6 or 7 top level folders/sub folders/layouts but after this the remaining folders are not displayed and any layouts that are in these folders are just listed as a normal "top level" layout would be listed (outside of a folder). Some of the nested second level folders are displaying this way as well (depending on their position in Manage Layouts). There are a total of 428 layouts in this thing so far, with a LOT left to go...! This is a database with daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual operations reports, all in dual language (dual language data entry in some cases), data entry/data edit layouts, etc... This is an issue for a different topic!

Moving folders from the bottom to the top of the listing in Manage Layouts results in that folder being displayed properly in the drop-down and other lower folders (that were displaying correctly) "dropping off" the listing. Did some more experimenting with moving things around & it seems to make a difference with the number of sub folders/layouts in the sub folder too. Definitely seems to be a problem with the number of folders/layouts nested...

I'm just using the drop- down as a quick way to navigate between layouts as I'm working. Works well for things that display properly - click the drop- down, click the folder for the menu tab,

click the menu choice folder, and select from the layouts for that menus choice. this can still be done from the Manage Layouts dialog in the same way, but then I'm opening another window instead of just flipping to a different layout. I'm working in FMP 11, Snow Leopard, latest software updates, etc.
