Sum Calculation not Working

Need a little help, my example explains my problem. Thanks for any help.

convert it to a summary field, not a calc field with sum()..

Tried your answer and all I get now is a total of all the records ($46.50)

But it IS working correctly.

If you want to create a summary report by type then you need to create a layout specific to that purpose. Suggest you look through the tutorial that is in your FileMaker install folder.

Which is the correct result. Your expectation is somewhat unrealistic: how would Filemaker know you want the sum by supplier and not, say, by item?

See the attached for another way.

Further variation on subsummary method showing result of different sorts for same report.

A distinction to note carefully for Comment's example is that the total is not dependent on the found set; which may or may not be what you want. Both results are useful; but they serve different purposes.

Thanks comment, that's exactly what I was after and also thanks to BruceR, your example has me off and exploring in a different direction.
