Newbies Andrew H Posted August 18, 2010 Newbies Posted August 18, 2010 (edited) I'm new here so if I have stuck this question in the wrong place then please accept my apologies. I have just organised a layout in landscape screen view but have decided that i need it in protrait view as i will be displaying the data on a large screen which is mounted on its side. is there a simple way of changing the screen view orientation or do I need to recreate the layout turning each field individually? the big problem i have is that there are probably 300 fields on the screen; its a multiperson (20), multi day (5), 3 slots per day solution; kind of a large grid if you like. help please Edited August 18, 2010 by Guest
Lee Smith Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Hi Andy, and welcome to the Forum, ... I have just organised a layout is in landscape screen view but have decided that i need it in protrait view It's not unusual to have to design layouts to fit different screen situations. do I need to recreate the layout turning each field individually? Probably. You can anchor your objects so that the expand and contract, search the help for [color:blue]"Setting auto-resize options for layout objects", however in your case I'm not so sure it will work because you designed it in Landscape and it would be squeezing it up to pull it into Portrait. the big problem i have is that there are probably 300 fields on the screen; its a multiperson (20), multi day (5), 3 slots per day solution; kind of a large grid if you like. Sounds like a spreadsheet to me? Are you currently viewing it as a Table or List? 300 Fields? how does your eyes know where to look? Can you attach a empty clone of your database? This Link explains how to do this. HTH Lee
comment Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 How about: 1. Select All 2. Group 3. Rotate 4. Ungroup I echo Lee's concern about your data structure.
Newbies Andrew H Posted August 19, 2010 Author Newbies Posted August 19, 2010 Thanks for the input guys. the data is in effect a diary and because of the nature of our business (we rent out sign language interpreters by the hour) so I need to see who is available for use at a glance over a two week period and sometime beyond, we also have 4 people that can be updating the system at any one time and whilst a spread sheet would show the data it wouldn't interact with our booking system which is also an fm DB and it couldn't be updated by more than one person without having to close it and save it and reopen it on a different computer. when we take a booking for our services it could be on 3 different days of the week at 3 different time i.e mon 10am til 12, thur 1pm til 3pm and fri 3pm til 5 and we need to be able to confirm to the caller there and then that we are able to supply for those time slots and I could have 4 people doing that for 4 customers at the same time. File maker lends itself very well to this and has done for 7 years now but Im upgrading from 5 to 9 advanced and because of the complexity and difficulties of upgrading from 5 to 9 i'm re-writting the whole thing. I will try the group rotate route, thanks.
Newbies Andrew H Posted August 19, 2010 Author Newbies Posted August 19, 2010 Worked a treat thank you
