remove unused scripts and table occurrences

Featured Replies

How can I find all my unused scripts and table occurrences in my filemaker solution?

I, too, would like to hear suggestions. There is certainly no function to do so.

I don't delete things. I put "xx" in front of things. Then, as I'm developing, these "xx" prefixes jump out at me and I deal with it.

You can search the DDR for "xx" and print scripts to PDF and search them.

Other than this type of tagging, I don't know of anyway to quickly identify the "unused."

Here's a tool that I haven't personally used, but has received good reviews:

Also consider Base Elements.

In large complicated solutions, I usually, do this on scripts I THINK no one is using (but I am not positive).

put a dialog box at the beginning of the script telling the user it is no longer in use.

Then put in a Send email script step to myself, letting me know of the error.

Comment out the remainder of the script.

Change the name of the sscript with a note and DATE.

After a decent amount of time with not response, I delete it.

For layouts, put a big obnoxious banner saying "Unused" and a 'on layout load' email like for scripts.

This gives me the piece of mind, no one has used the script/layout for at least X time.
