We are running filemaker 3 on macintosh (mac OS 8.5-9.0, imacs, ibooks, powerbooks, starmax, ect.) and windows (95) all off a appleshare IP 6.2 server (starmax). The windows machine seems to be where the main problem is. A few of the filemaker files seem to be crashing on the windows 95 machine randomly thus causing complete recovery. It isn't just one file, but a couple. Now, one of the files can not be opened at all. It crashes the windows 95 computer and freezes any mac that trys to open it. It has been recovered a few times, but still no avail.

We are planning an upgrade to filemaker 5 in the future, but wanted to keep 3 working for a bit longer. I'm not sure what else to do about the crashing and corrupt file.

We need to clarify "off a appleshare IP 6.2 server".

1) Is FileMaker running on the server and hosting files? A definite no-no!

2) Is FileMaker running on the clients and opening files on the server? Are these files multi-user? This will work, but can be unstable, especially for more than 2-3 guests.

The AppleShare server should not have a copy of FileMaker installed (this prevents a lot of bad modes of operation). - bd

Thanks for responding.

Yes, we do have a copy of Filemaker installed on the server. It is only installed but not running on the server. All the files are on and worked off of the server.

All files are multi-user.
