We have a problem with a corrupt FP3 file, which was apparently closed wrong. When we try to open the file, we get the following error message: "Access privileges have been damaged or tampered with."

When we move the file to a Mac (Filemaker Pro 5), we can convert and open the file, but it only has one blank record (and is about 1/100 the size of the original).

Is there any manual way to break into one of these things? We can write programs, run Crystal Reports, pay a consultant, whatever it takes. We are going to send the file to Filemaker, but the estimated turnaround is 4-6 weeks and it's not guaranteed.

Thanks for any help.

Yeah, we tried that. That also gives us the tiny file with no data in it.

Thanks for your quick response! Any ideas are welcome.

Unfortunately the "Access privileges have been damaged or tampered with." is kind of the "golden BB". It's not how powerful the BB is, it's where it hits you that makes it fatal. Often this message means an unrecoverable file that must be sent to FMI for repairs. I would go to the backup copy. If there is no backup copy, it might be a good time to get religion about performing regular backups! -bd

Hey,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Have you tried to import the records from the corrupt file into another file?

If you had a clone of the original file you might try this. If you don't have a clone, you might generate a new file will all the same fields and then try to import them. You could clean it up later but it would be better than nothing.

LOL
