Newbies fishjim Posted March 8, 2001 Newbies Posted March 8, 2001 I've got a Filemaker Pro 3 Server database of about 2000 records that's suddenly lost the ability to toggle between List and Form views. It works if you change the View setting, close down the database, and re-open it again, but you can't toggle in real-time. As this is co-incident with some problems searching in date fields, I'm guessing the database may be corrupted somehow, but my attempts at using the Recover feature haven't worked. I've also tried opening a copy of the database in Filemaker 5 and converting it to Filemaker 5 format..still no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim Fisher [email protected]
LiveOak Posted March 9, 2001 Posted March 9, 2001 The first thing you need to do is make sure your disk is in good shape. Run Norton Utilities, Disk Warrior or TechTool (you did use the Mac icon in your post!). The ultimate without completely rewriting is to: 1) Clean up the disk 2) Save a clone of the database. 3) Export the data in text or dif or dbf format (be careful, dif and dbf will only handle 256 characters in a field) 4) Import the data into the clone. -bd
john.daly Posted March 9, 2001 Posted March 9, 2001 Are you short of hard disk space? You need about 30Mb of free disk space to run Filemaker even after you've installed it.
Newbies fishjim Posted March 12, 2001 Author Newbies Posted March 12, 2001 Thanks <LiveOak> and <John.Daly> for your replies. Unfortunately I've run Norton Utilities several times and have plenty of disk space, so I'll need to try the export to a clone, as suggested by <LiveOak>. Haven't had a chance to try this yet; will post the results once I do. Thanks again for your replies. Jim
