Spencer Posted January 29, 2001 Posted January 29, 2001 When I am in the browser mode(100%) and have a textbox that is 10 cm long the text is also 10 cm long. When I reduce or enlarge the window the text is about 9 cm long. The printout is also about 9 cm long so it would be a problem with the 100% view. I have this problem both under apple and windows.
Spencer Posted January 29, 2001 Author Posted January 29, 2001 Thats not exactly what I mean, example: In 100% view the text is like this: aaa aaa aaa aa aa aa aaaa aa aa aaa aaa aaa aaaa aa. In 150% view the text is like this: aaa aaa aaa aa aa aa aaaa aa aa aaa aaa aaa aaaa aa.
LiveOak Posted January 30, 2001 Posted January 30, 2001 This is a "feature" of FM. Don't use the 150% view to judge what anything will look like when printed. The 100%, 200%, 300% and 400% views are fine. It makes sense, when you multiply 1 pixel by 1.5 how many pixels do you get (only whole numbers allowed!)? -bd
BobWeaver Posted January 30, 2001 Posted January 30, 2001 It has to do with the monitor/video resolution. There are so many combinations of resolution options and monitor sizes, that your software won't know exactly what size things are displayed at. Does your computer know whether you have a 14" or 17" monitor plugged in? To control the size that things print at, use the text and graphic rulers when you create your layout.
Spencer Posted January 30, 2001 Author Posted January 30, 2001 The problem is that the printout is like the text in 150% or 75% or any other percentage but not 100%. The problem is the same on apple or windows.
LiveOak Posted January 30, 2001 Posted January 30, 2001 See my previous reply. Same answer. How may pixels is 75% of one pixel? Only even scalings will display correctly. -bd
Spencer Posted January 30, 2001 Author Posted January 30, 2001 Thanx for looking but the problem is, the Laserprint is like the 150% or 200%, 400% view and not the 100% view. I want my 100% view be the same as the laserprint. [This message has been edited by Spencer (edited January 30, 2001).]
BobWeaver Posted January 30, 2001 Posted January 30, 2001 Because of the difference between the screen fonts and the printer fonts, things don't always print the same as they display on the screen. I haven't played around with fonts much lately so I don't remember all the details. But, check the following: 1. De-select font substitution in the print dialog box. 2. Use only truetype fonts. 3. There may be some other options in your print dialog depending on which driver you are using. Some of these are designed to force the printer to print more like what is on the screen (like precision bitmap alignment etc.). Try playing with them.
Lee J Posted January 31, 2001 Posted January 31, 2001 If you have Adobe Acrobat, create a Postscript file and distill it then print from Acrobat Reader and see what happens. If it's fine then you are experiencing a scaling problem in which case check your Print Setup is not above 100%. Secondly what printer do you have? Is it PS level 2 or 3? and what version of the Laserwriter driver are you using?
