Crackers Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 This seems to me like an incredibly stupid question. I have Filemaker 11 on my PC. Everywhere I look there is talk of how well Filemaker handles being used on a PC or on a Mac. I have now bought an IMac. Can I take my Filemaker 11 program and simply load it onto the Mac. I can see how Filemaker GO works. I suspect that it is only the solutions that work on both machines. However, nowhere does it say this is not what can happen. Is this because it is so obvious, and everyone knows it can happen.
comment Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Can I take my Filemaker 11 program and simply load it onto the Mac. You need to install the Filemaker application on your Mac (your installation disk should contain installers for both platforms). You can then copy your solutions (.fp7 files) to the Mac and use them.
Vaughan Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Can I take my Filemaker 11 program and simply load it onto the Mac. You'll need a separate license to install FMP on a second computer.
comment Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 You'll need a separate license to install FMP on a second computer. I don't think so.
bruceR Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I don't think so. FileMaker Pro 11 §1(d) of the EULA: "Additionally, the primary user of the computer on which the Software is installed may make a second copy for his or her exclusive use on either a home or portable computer. "
Vaughan Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Indeed you make my point... unless the OP's PC is a laptop they'll need a second license.
comment Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I don't see why "either a home or portable computer" must be a laptop.
Vaughan Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Good point... though I would not consider an iMac "portable".
comment Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Neither would I - but I believe it qualifies as a "home computer"? I really don't see your point here.
IdealData Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Isn't there a software activation issue to consider?
comment Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Software activation started and ended with version 9, IIRC. In any case, Activation supports up to two computers Activation process, in compliance with the terms of End User License Program, supports installation on two computers as well as most system upgrades (for example, operating system, motherboard, memories or processor). http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6888/kw/one%20licensed%20version
