July 28, 201114 yr I have a Supplier Pop up list in a Quote table. When you move into the Supplier ID field a list of all Suppliers pops up. If you type a 't' the system jumps ahead to the 't's. If you type a 'b' it jumps back to the 'b' suppliers. This works fine on Windows. We have introduced a brand new Mac which runs the database just fine in other respects. But when you type a letter with this pop up list showing the system just beeps and does not move to a new part of the list. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions?
July 29, 201114 yr Play around with the option to show/hide the arrow that displays the list (in the field's formatting).
August 4, 201114 yr Author The arrow to show/hide makes no difference. I'm pretty sure this is a Macintosh bug.
August 4, 201114 yr It's probably not a bug, but different behaviour between platforms. Your replies aren't providing much information.
August 5, 201114 yr If you select the field and, from the menu, select Insert > From index (Apple-I ?) do you see the index?
August 8, 201114 yr I have had the same problem on my Mac. I am testing FM11 before launching it across a mixed platform network and could not work it out. I have a drop-down list using information from two fields, first field is a code (say MP10003; this is a number field by the way) and the second field is a description (Large Widget). The drop-down list was sorting on the second field. This was not working as Digital Life described in FM9. I changed the fields around and sorted on the first field and it works fine. My conclusion is that either: 1. FM11 is ignoring the sort on second field flag when using a key from the keyboard to jump down the list, or 2. a defined number field with letters is confusing the sort list. I am not sure which! Hope this helps
August 8, 201114 yr I believe there are two differences in version 11: 1. Typing a character while a pop-up menu is up works in version 11. In previous versions, typing a character works only with a drop-down menu. 2. In version 11, if you are showing both fields, typing a character jumps to the value where the first field begins with the typed characters. It doesn't matter if the value list is sorted by the second field. In previous versions, if the value list is sorted by the second field, it will jump to the value where the second field begins with the typed characters. In v.11 you must hide the first field to get this behavior. first field is a code (say MP10003; this is a number field by the way) Well, "MP10003" is not a number, so you might want to get your act together before you test for bugs.
August 8, 201114 yr Clearly I am discovering features! Point taken, slip of the keyboard. Thanks for the information. I will reset all drop-down list to work with the new version.
August 8, 201114 yr I will reset all drop-down list to work with the new version. Well, drop down lists and pop-up menus are not directly interchangeable. A drop down list allows the user to enter whatever they want. A pop-up menu limits the entry to the available options. The "only display values form second field" option is only available for pop-up menus.
August 8, 201114 yr The "only display values form second field" option is only available for pop-up menus. Well, the option is available for value lists, regardless of how you format a field. But it's true that with a drop-down, it comes into play only during selection, not after selection.
August 9, 201114 yr Correction noted: but the difference I was highlighting was that lists allow free-text entry, while menus do not. A very different interface.
August 9, 201114 yr No argument there. For completion sake: although you cannot type into a pop-up field, pressing delete does work. And they are ugly, too.
