Charity Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Thank you if you can help. Form view, data in fields. If data too much to fit in the field, the data that is displaying sits too high in the field compared to the other fields which don't autowrap to another line. This mismatch in placement of data in the field looks terrible particularly on list view. How can I stop FM from recognizing wrapped text when displaying and jagging it upwards? I tried setting alignment to upper, middle and lower but it makes no difference. There must be some trick to it or a checkbox or something.

Charity Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Here is file with new fields set to same formatting size etc and text which is example of misplacement. top set is list, bottom set is in footer to show form view and the container is screen shot of my results on windows. Thank you for taking a look for me. ooops fields.zip
comment Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I tried setting alignment to upper, middle and lower but it makes no difference. It should be aligned to the top - it does makes a difference, at least for me.
Charity Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Thank you yes, it makes a difference, but setting the align to top then makes all text in all fields too high. If I make the field narrower to compensate then it makes the fields look all scrunched and I read also to allow space all around because of rendering on different systems, Macs take more space, right? This is not a small thing. It should center. Anyone seeing this will think the person who built it was sloppy. Well I guess I'll scrunch instead of punch and I appreciate you response.
comment Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 setting the align to top then makes all text in all fields too high I don't know. With Verdana 9 pt, a field height of 13 pixels (14 if engraved) looks fine to me.
Charity Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 I suppose we have to pick our battles. The battle I would wish to pick would be with FM itself. Text should center in a field vertically by even amounts (+/- 1 pt) if User requests align center vertically. I suppose we have to design with what we have but should we not acknowledge that the darned thing doesn't work the way it should? And I understand now that there isn't an unidentified option somewhere which I can click to fix the problem so the text adjusts to the soft return overlap and bump up. Well, sometimes it is the little things ... thank you anyway, Comment. Char()
comment Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Well, Filemaker is not a DTP application. However, I still don't understand what exactly you complaint is. Text does "center in a field vertically" - if you set alignment to 'center'. Of course, this applies to the entire text, so naturally 2 lines of text will start higher than a one-liner. The only real limitation I can see with alignment to the top is that you cannot adjust the spacing above the first line. I suppose some elaborate workaround could be found, but the truth is that the default spacing seems quite reasonable to me.
