Field sizing in reports

Featured Replies

I have a report, that a field 'Comment' sometimes has many lines, sometimes none.

I looked into sliding objects, but it doesn't seem to match what I need - or I didn't do it right..

If the field height has to increase, I only want it to for that record, not for all records, which in turn increases the spacing.

Can someone please lend some advice :D

Hi Matty,

Unfortunately, fields can not be enlarged to suit one record. You can deal with this either by making the field big enough to satisfy the one record, and then use the slide feature, or to limit the number of characters for the field so that it accommodates the rest of the records.

You need to stretch the field as tall as the maximum amount of data that will reside in that field - In browse mode it will look strange - however in preview or when printing sliding turned on items will slide.

I have increased the field size to fit the largest. Turned sliding on. But when I enter preview mode, it still remains the same in Browse mode - with huge spacing in the fields with less text.

Make sure there are no field borders turned on on the field in question and that the field contents is top aligned.

I have done this. It goes to the size of the 'Body' of the layout. The fields are all a single horizontal line, with the field in question being the tallest of all of them.

All of the fields in the body must be set to slide and reduce enclosing part (which has been incorrectly renamed to 'reduce and enlarge'). It is easiest to lasso them (or CTRL-lasso in 12) and set them all at once. Also be sure none of the fields overlap at all. :-)

And this goes for lines and field labels also.

I did this - all fields in the Body are marked to slide and reduce enclosing part.

It still doesn't work though?

I've attached a picture to show

Got it sorted. One of the fields was sitting outside the body section that I didn't notice.

thanks everyone for their help!

I can't tell for sure but it looks like the comment field is touching the line of the prior sub-summary and same on the bottom. But SOMETHING is not correct. If you can't find it then attach your file or PM it to me here (zipped first) and we'll help you find it. It also looks like a line is on the bottom body.

If you select the body, Inspector will tell you the top and bottom px/pt. Then move your objects down or up by 1-2 pt/px.

LOL ... we crossed ... Cool!
