accidentally overwrote a database

I went to open a database that I hadn't looked at for several months. When it opened up I saw a newer database that I had started to create but then abandoned. Some how this new database wiped out the one I want to use. My backup files have the same problem.

Is there any way to get the old database back?

Did you save the newer one with the same file name as the old one? Same location? Ignore the warning dialog?

I didn't do a "save as", I wouldn't have ignored a warning dialog. It was about 8 months ago that I created this bad database so I can't remember exactly how I did this.

thanks

Is this local? Check your hard drive for files of that name... You can have (multiple) FM files called the same name, and it can be a bit random as to which one it actually opens at times. There are rules as to which one it will prefer but they are somewhat arcane...

Double clicking on the one you're really after should work.

The "Solutions Wanted" topic is for finding a ready made solution, not for asking how-to questions.

I did this just yesterday too. I right-clicked the new file I had created, and Properties > Previous Versions, and it was there and I just made a new copy from that.
