I have a file that generates a report for a date range that is entered by the user (Start Date & End Date). I would like to have it so fhe user enters the two dates, then clicks on a button to find the records in that date range. How can I do this?

TIA

I sure did not mean to set off such a lengthy (and diverse) chain of replies. I was merely looking for a way to avoid having to reinstruct several people each month on the correct way to do a range find (I'm amazed at how short term some people's memories are!).

I looked at Month Range Creator, but it is FMP 12 and I am V11.

I tried Simple Date Range v7, but could not get it to work on my file. The notes on this stated:

"The most important aspect of this solution to remember is that the Insert Calculated Result script step has to be used because Set Field coerces the two dates and the ellipse into a single date. Therefore, it is necessary for this script to run on a layout containing the date field being searched." There is on Insert Calculated Result step in any script so that left me confused.

I have attached my file if anyone wants to tell me why it does not work (the script is named Report Date Range, and you need to be on Report Screen). I know this looks really simplistic and very unatractive, but I am just starting on this. Password is 16163.

You haven't told us what the account name/password are for the file. So nobody can help you - yet.

No it isn't. That doesn't work.

What is the account name; AND password?

Your script works fine as is except for one very important item:

Your script is using the wrong "perform find" command.

The "Perform Find/Replace []" command is not the one you want.

The perform find/replace command is a "word processor" type of command, for finding one word or phrase within the text of a record and changing it into another.

You want the "Perform Find []" command.

Your changes work great except that I want to modify the find to show how many Adult and or Kittens have Stray - At Large in the Intake Source field. The script as modified still only gives me the 15 total records in the date range find.

The scipt as modified is attached.

Your script will find all the record in the date range, but I need to modify the find(s). Specificaly I need to get the Stray - At large count for both kittens and adults. I modified your script (attached), but the modifications don't have any effect - the finds only return the total records in the date range (15). What I need is the Adult Stray - At Large count of 2 and the Kitten count of 3.

Had trouble with attaching file - here it is.

NOW here it is

I Should also ad that this is just the first of about 30 searches that i will need to do for a monthly report to L.A. Animal Services. I need to script this, because asking volunteers to do that many finds on a monthly basis is sure to introduce errors.

You appear to be asking people to do quite a lot of ongoing dev work on a commercial solution for free. Consider posting a request in the help wanted section.

I beg your pardon! If you review the posts in this thread, you will find that this whole thing deals with one simple script. It was never my intention to have this forum develop extensive solutions.

My problem here is that a seemingly simple find does not work, and I have no idea how to fix this. While I agree that my initial problem has been taken care of, the immediate next step brought with it a new difficulty that defies all the FMP experience that my limited capability encompasses.

Let me also add the the solution I am working on is pro bono for a non-profit organization, where I have already donated over $500 in equipment and software.

PS Where is this "Help Wanted" located?

He is referring to the Services Wanted Topic Area, located - here

This is where you would post a request for paying someone to either tutor or create your file need.

No, it's not a simple script.

I've read this thread several times now, and I'm confused to what you are upset with? Bruce fixed your find script, so please explain to me what I'm missing?

As far as:

I think I posted this on the wrong forum.

If you are referring to a Topic area, no you have posted it in the right place. If, on the other hand, you are referring to our FM Forums, then you are certainly free to go ask your question somewhere else.

I'm not sure if you are aware of it or not, but we are all volunteers here, and no one is an employee of FileMaker Inc.

Hi Lee

First, let me apologize for my response to Bruce R - he implied that I was trying to get extensive help in development - the fact is I have been trying to solve one scripted find for over 10 days and still have not solution.

Second, Bruce R's solution does not work when additional set field parameters are used - he never revisited his last response or he would have seen that additional content had been added to show that condition.

Finally, I don't think this is the proper forum for my question, hence my posting on the Find and Searching site.
