Portal(?) not working

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I hope someone can help; I've developed brain-fade!

I have 3 tables:

1. musiclist (inc titles, song no/ID, composer etc)

2. Gigs (inc, date, venue etc)

3. Join table.

I've got a portal on a Gigs layout pointing to the join table where I'd like to be able to add songs to gigs using a value dropdown based on the music in the music list.

It doensn't really work - the song no isn't added, or is incorrect. It doesn't change when I change a song using the drop down.

I can't add new songs using the portal; the dropdown doesn't work on the bottom row.

I've attatched the file with data (there's nothing confidential) to compensate for my rubbish explanation!

Cheers,

MIke

Corrected file attached.

You needed to set the song ID -- not the name -- into the join table field.

Fixed value list and attached it to correct field.

Hi Fitch,

Many thanks for your help.

Unfortunately the file behaves in the same way; I can't add songs, and the song no doesn't match.

I suspect that I've not found the corrected file.

Cheers,

Mike

Oops - Tom - no file attached!

Hi Fitch,

I've made some changes as you suggested and have made definate progress. :-)

  1. I can now add new songs to each gig.
  2. The Song No and title now correspond.

The problem I've now got is that the value list only gives me a selection of three songs instead of the full set of 20 odd there should be.

Do I have to import all the songs from the songs table into the join table to make that happen? If so, how, and how do I keep the data up to date when I add new songs to the song table? (or have I got the wrong end of the stick!!)

Cheers,

Mike

No, you don't have to import. If you want the song value list to be based on the song table, then base the value list on the song table. Maybe this will help?

Many thanks for that; works really nicely.

That delete row button is a good little gizmo, nice and easy to understand to!

Big thanks! :-)
