I think I am having a hard time understanding Title Headers.

I 've read all I could on them of course, all I managed to, to be exact. Yet, I still can't figure out why on certain layout where I am trying out a title header (for the purposes of having a clear indication of the current layout name and purspose) on my layout it doesn't appear in browse mode.

Hi, LaRetta, and thanks for the reply.

Sorry for that, I expected this was standard behaviour to not show the title header (unless some condition is met which I am not aware of). In terms of  screenshots, there's really not much I would think they could add here. It's just a layout with a title header, header, summaries, and body. If you do insist that you might gain some understanding, I will go ahead and edit out some of the private bits in the layouts, and post a couple of screenshots.

I would not ask for more information if I did not think it necessary.  :crazy2:

Obviously something isn't working as you intend it and you've read Help and Title Headers are very simple so I am unsure what you expect on this end without more information.

Title Headers only show for the first record when in Browse.  Are you in Preview?  Do you have a record in the found set?  Okay, I'm done guessing.

The condition for showing the title header is that you must be in preview mode.

Oh and ... I don't know if there are fields which are not displaying ... are there?  Are they fields from a related table?  See, there are many questions.

I don't think there are any questions actually.

The original problem statement by FMOW is that title headers do not display in browse mode.

They don't - in list view. That is expected behavior.

(edit)

However, they DO appear in form view.

As I stated, they DO appear in Browse.  From FM Help:

Note  In Browse mode, the title header, header, footer and title footer display the data from the active record.

I see you edited your post.  Funny.  So yes, I had questions.

The purpose of title header is to provide the header for the title page when printing. There's no reason to use it for anything else (except confusing yourself and - if you're lucky - others as well).

I agree with Comment about the purpose.

But it looks like FM Help is wrong or not specific enough.

In browse mode, the title header/footer only displays when in form view.

At least that's the way it works for me, FileMaker 12.0v5/Mac.

There is no contradiction here; the note LaRetta quoted says that the data displayed in the mentioned parts in Browse mode comes from the active record. It does not say that all those parts do always appear in Browse mode (they don't).

I understand that ... that is why I was asking questions such as whether there was even a record.  It was not indicated what is in the title header, which was why I asked for a bit more information or a screen shot.

Added:  I know that sometimes I go too deep into details.  It is my shortcoming, LOL, and I think Bruce just likes to find things.  :-)
