Hello

I understand the documentation for this sync says the hosted file needs to be on filemaker server. However if we disable the perform script on server features then will this work on filemaker pro 12.

Filemaker server with 5 concurrent iPads is very expensive. But you can have 5 users with filemaker pro 12 included in license.

Thanks appreciate any feedback.

This is what it says on the FAQ page:

"easysync runs on the filemaker 13 platform. The hosted database must be hosted on filemaker server 13"

So you cant run this sync if you have filemaker pro 13 setup. You must be using filemaker server to host the master database. Then filemaker pro can connect to it.

What makes this sync filemaker 13 specific. can we disable some of the functionality to make it work on filemaker 12 pro.

If you read the FAQ here http://fmeasysync.com/faq/, it says:

What are the technical requirements for EasySync?

EasySync runs on the FileMaker 13 platform. The "hosted" database must be hosted on FileMaker Server 13. The "mobile" database needs to be run on FileMaker Go 13, FileMaker Pro 13, or FileMaker Pro Advanced 13.

The reason for this is that EasySync uses several new features of the FileMaker 13 platform, including the new Base64 encoding and decoding functions and the new "Perform Script on Server" script step (which significantly improves performance).

It is certainly a good reason to move up. :-)

There are two features of the FileMaker 13 platform that EasySync makes use of:

1. Perform Script on Server (PSOS), which requires the use of FileMaker Server 13. There are settings for disabling PSoS and using the "Perform Script" step instead. So in theory, you can disable PSoS and use "Pro" instead of "Server."

2. The new Base64 encoding and decoding functions, which are necessary for syncing container fields. If you are not syncing containers, then those functions aren't necessary.

In any case, I highly recommend that you use FileMaker Server instead of FileMaker Pro - and specifically, that you host using FileMaker Server 13. You can certainly try to host using FileMaker Pro 12, but it is not what EasySync was designed to run on.

Also, you wrote, "Filemaker server with 5 concurrent iPads is very expensive." What is the likelihood that multiple iPad users are going to be syncing at the same time? If it is low, then perhaps you can get by with just a single concurrent connection.

And finally, another option that you might want to consider is using a FileMaker hosting company. There are now several that offer shared hosting with FileMaker Server 13.

Thanks for your reply. If we used 1 connection in filemaker 13. Does this sync open and close connection after the sync operation when ran on an iPad.

So if two iPad users in the building will filemaker go automatically hold a connection. Or does the sync open and close connection.

Thanks for your help.
