Yes. You'll have to learn about custom menus.

I note that your profile lists you as using FileMaker 11 but you posted the question under FileMaker 13.

Here's the link to help for FileMaker 11 custom menus.

It is essentially the same for FileMaker 13.

Hi everybody:

Thanks, I'll check the customs menu.

I still use 11, but posted on 13, because the situation is the same in both, and the solution may be useful also to those who are using 13 (which group is greater by now, the old fashioned 11's like me or the modern 13's?)

Best regards

Carlos

That is/ was one way to look at it. However, the version 13 topics will be moved at some point to other Topics that better match the sprit of the questions. They are only at the top (we do this with all new releases for a short period of time) so they are readily available. Before long, we will be moving them to there permanent locations.

In the meantime, lets keep the topics where they belong.

Changing the Ctrl+key combination won't prevent a user from duplicating a record.

It only makes it difficult to find.

All a user would have to do is experiment a bit to find the right combination.

Once they find it they will remember it and use it.. guaranteed.

If you want to 100% prevent duplicate you gotta follow Bruce R direction to learn custom menus.

The change might be good enough; and maybe he did accomplish that with custom menus.

One of the hazards control+D for duplicate is that it is so physically close on the keyboard to very commonly used control+F for Find.

One very common command right next to another, more dangerous command.

Maybe Carlos just wants keep a duplicate command; but make accidental triggering less likely.

Hi Bruce:

That is correct, I just wanted to avoid making duplicates by mistake.

I did change Ctrl+D to Ctrl+] with custom menus, that makes it nearly impossible to make a duplicate by pressing the wrong key.
