January 9, 201510 yr Hello:  I'm trying to create an Invoice type report with VERTICAL lines ( see enclosed pic ).  I'm having a difficult time because of the resizing of my fields and it just never seems to work out correctly.   I was wondering if someone has a "best practices" or "trick" to get these vertical lines to work or a way to create an "invoice type" report.  Thank you  Dom  Â
January 10, 201510 yr Make separate layouts for print and screen, 1) On the screen I usually use fields and portals, unless it's list view, then I can have a faster WAN solution using merge fields. 2) For print I usually feel better off using merge fields and avoid portals; making the layout anchored in the lowest level child table; that gives the ability to use FileMaker aggregation features.
January 10, 201510 yr As ggt667 describes, invoices are best designed on a layout based on the invoice_lines table. Vertical lines are a challenge in Filemaker. I've had success using field borders to achieve the look of an unbroken vertical line.
