FM 12. I’m using a value list to insert an id from the first field and to display a related name from the second field. I want to use a drop down list to display the name only. I thought I read somewhere you can place the name field over the id field to do this but I can’t get it to work. Any suggestions? By the way, is there any simple way to refer to a value list that uses two fields?

If there is any possibility of upgrading to FMP15, I'd strongly recommend that. There are several new features for value lists that would be useful for you.

Would you rephrase your question, please?

I'd love to upgrade to FMP 15 but there is a major problem. It does not scale properly on my Windows 10 based desktop. I purchased the program last year but it would not scale properly. It required changing Windows 10 scaling to get FM layouts to fit on the screen, but the scaling of other programs was then incorrect. I finally gave up (after talking to FM tech support) returned it and got my money back. I wonder if others had this problem and/or the problem has been fixed.

No, you didn't. FileMaker 15 was released May 10, 2016.
