FileMaker Plug-Ins

I am new in this forum, amd new in Filemaker Developing so this question may be very easy to yours. I want to learn how to write plugins and also how to use it. So i try to learn by reading FileMaker Developers Guide. Book says there is some examples in FMPDevoloper Folder but there no fmx file wich is sayed in Dev.Guide Book. I am having trouble getting a plug in to work in a runtime solution that I have created. The plug-in doesn't show up in the application preferences menu which seems to indicate that its not "enabled". However, before I turn the database into a runtime file, the plug-in works correctly (plug-in IS "enabled" in the full version of FM. So, how do I install and enable a plug-in to work in a runtime solution? I am using FMPro/Developer 5 for Win98. Thanks Ed

Hello everybody, I began yesterday to develop a plug-in for FileMakerPro 5.0 with Visual C++ 6.0. I bought FileMaker Developer Edition. The problem is that on the CD, there is only a listing of functions for JAVA. I need a listing of function for VC++6.0 ( How to add a record, to "go to a field", ... ). I am putting up a system to run a small retail shop which will include Inventory, Customer, Vendor, Invoice and Purchase Order Files. I have been asked to link my FMP system to a Point of Sales system that will, in real time, capture all sales and debit inventory at the cash register. This is entirely new to me. I would be grateful if someone can point me in a direction for further research, hardware and software. Does anyone know if FMP does this well? I have downloaded Troi, which plugs in a serial port connection, but what then? Do we need a special cash register to do this. I presume that the cashier would enter the sale directly into a FMP layout, then activat…

I have just been introduced to File Maker and am amazed at what it can do for me. Currently I have about 5 different programs to fit my needs and want to consolidate. Can someone suggest a way that I can create a visual calendar to set up a current meeting or event to (along with with time and reminder that this meeting is about to take place)?

I am using the Troi Dialog Plug-in and in my dialog box I want to prompt the user to enter an override price. In that dialog box I am displaying the current lookup price, however it does not show the whole number in the correct format (after the decimal places). If the price is 10.00 , it displays 10; 10.20 displays 10.2 . Is there any way I can format the number in the calculation area? I've already tried the Round function. Has anyone any experience with setting up Troi serial with caller ID . I cannot get it to work even with Troi's own sample files although the signal is obviously getting through to Filemaker.

Probably the most frustrating experience I have had in fourteen years of development is with Oazium Charts (followed closely by my struggling with Analyzer). Waves in Motion produces stuff that works but manages to put out the worst documentation I have ever seen. I have some solutions that I have developed that are hairy but work, including an unfiinshed project te create a control database that I could use to make charing easier. The good news is that it works. The bad news is that Charts is a monster to debug, and you can very easily get unintended results. I have never gotten any kind useful help from WIM, but maybe you will have better luck. Not an answer to your q…

I am frustrated adding JPEG photos to my Filemaker catalog one at a time. Is there a plug-in available that would allow batch processing of numerous JPEG photos all at once?

I wondering if there is a plug in (or other solution) that would make Filemaker Pro call a number on the phone and then speak text. I have a client that would like to setup a phone list and then, when needed, type in a message and have everyone notified by phone of the message.

As far as I can see, there are two dominant plug-ins to provide graphing capabilities within FileMaker: oAzium Charts from Waves in Motion and xmChart from X2Max Software. Does anyone have a recommendation on which one does the best job? Thanks, Chuck

I am doing financial reporting using Filemaker. It would be a better product if it could do charts/graphs without having to move it out into another application. Is anyone working on this feature or do you have any suggestions?

I realise you can get plug-ins for FileMaker in order to be able to produce graphs, but has anyone had any experience of creating a Gantt Chart? Or are there any plug-ins that will create one? Gantt charts show various tasks, who is doing them and how long they take in terms of hours and when they will be completed. The list of tasks will be listed vertically, with the timescale in hours/days/months etc, horizontal. Thus the task will be shown by a small horizontal line in the correct time period, possibly with the persons initials alongside. This information is already entererd into an existing FileMaker file (FM Pro 5), but I am looking for some way of translating this …
